Detached

2010 - Sound Sculpture

There is so much space, and so much pressure in the crush of people, ideas, sounds, and sensations. So compressed that it creates a large, dark stain that makes it impossible to distinguish its contents, with so much air surrounding it. That's why we would "space out," we would jump into the surrounding white space, and that's what I'm doing.

The installation has the same concept of heaping, but outside the frame, with materialized characters.

The canvas (as a frame) no longer has enough strength to hold them, to represent them. There are too many of them; their stories, their personalities, make them increasingly burdensome. Thanks to this density, they manage to escape, but nevertheless, they are unable to separate; comfort and habituation are stronger than the desire for freedom.

The installation “Desprendidos” is made up of more than 2500 cold porcelain figures, painted and piled up.
